Both the Pierre Governor Soccer teams had some late game theatrics on Saturday as they tied the Rapid City Central Cobblers. Both teams lost on Friday as they went 0-1-1.
For the girls on Friday, the Rapid City Stevens Raiders scored early and took it to the Govs winning 6-0 to remain unbeaten. However, on Saturday, the girls played a much cleaner game and for the first time in the second half of any game, the Govs led when Regan Rae scored on a free kick just outside the box. Caytee Williams scored late in the first half to tie the game at 1-1 before Rae gave the Governors the lead. It was all the way until the final minute when the Cobblers were able to score the equalizer and earn a draw, their second in as many days as they are still unbeaten on the season.
The Governor boys nearly climbed back from a 3-0 deficit but a couple of missed grade A chances gave Rapid City Stevens a 3-2 on Friday. The Governors and Cobblers on Saturday played to a scoreless draw but not without some controversy. As time expired, the Cobblers scored the lone goal of the game but head coach Matt DeBoer was on top of it saying there were zeroes on the clock and it shouldn’t count. After the three referees conferred, no goal was awarded and the Governors came away with the tie against the Cobblers.
The Govs will be back in action on Thursday as they travel to Huron to face the Tigers in a doubleheader. The girls will play at 4:00 and the boys at 6:00.
