The Pierre Governor Soccer teams were both unable to get wins on Monday on the road as the girls fell 3-1 and the boys lost 1-0.
In the girls contest, both teams were scoreless at the half but Pierre was able to strike first in the second half to take a 1-0 lead. However, Roosevelt found the back of the net three times to claim victory, its seventh of the year as the Rough Riders are now 7-1-1 while Pierre falls to 2-7-1.
In the boys game, the Rough Riders outshot the Governors 24-5 but the Govs held Roosevelt in check for almost the entire game. Late in the first half the Rough Riders received a penalty kick but goalkeeper Cam Ahartz stood tall and made the save to keep the game tied. It was one of six saves on the evening for the senior returning to the lineup after being out on Saturday. But, in the final ten minutes of the game Byron Ochoa put in the lone goal of the game to give Roosevelt the lead and win as they are now 8-1-1 on the season. The Govs fall to 3-5-2 on the year.
Both teams will play in the regular season finale on Tuesday as Yankton is in town. The girls will play at 4:00 and the boys at 6:00. You can listen to both on Today’s KCCR and todayskccr.com as well as watch on YouTube at KCCR Sports with Jon Winkler and Mendel Miller on the call.
