Pierre Soccer Girls Fall, Boys Pick up Second Win

The Pierre Governor Soccer teams traveled to Mitchell on Tuesday and earned a split between the two teams as the girls fell 3-1 and the boys picked up a 4-2 win.

In the first match, the girls found themselves down 1-0 in just the seventh minute on a goal by Lily Peterson. Mitchell would follow that up with another goal in the first eight minutes of the second half to take a 2-0 lead. However, Ryann Berry grabbed a turnover from Mitchell and found the back of the net to pull within one. Yet, 18 seconds later, Mia Mullenmeister broke free down the side on the far sideline and found the back of the net to put the Kernels right back up by two and it’s where the match finished in favor of the Kernels.

In the boys match, Clay Alban scored the first goal for Pierre as he took the penalty kick after Mitchell was called for a foul inside the box to put the Govs up 1-0. However, Mitchell would answer and tie the match up at one apiece at halftime. Carsten Miller took over in the second half. Miller scored three times in a span of 13 minutes to record a hat trick and give the Govs a three goal cushion before picking up a 4-2 win over the Kernels.

Head Coach Matt DeBoer talked about picking up that second win of the season…

DeBoer complimented Miller with his second half play…

The Govs have now scored seven goals so far, one more than all of last season and combining the defense, DeBoer says that should give his team confidence…

The Soccer Teams will be at home on Thursday as they take on Roosevelt at 4:00 and 6:00.
