Pierre Soccer Opens Season at Home

Fall Sports officially begin in Pierre as the Governors soccer teams welcome in Brandon Valley to kick off the 2020-2021 school season.

Both Governor teams were eliminated in the first round of the playoffs last fall but look to make amends this season. Both teams took a loss last season to Brandon Valley on the road. The Lynx girls’ team were eliminated in the quarterfinals while the boys team was eliminated in the state semifinals.

The Governors girls’ team will feature five seniors on this year squad while the boys have six seniors including their goalkeeper in Cameron Ahartz who returns in net for Pierre.

Matt DeBoer, head coach of the Governor boys’ team in his second season, says it’s simple, just compete…

The Governors will have a much different look to the offense and DeBoer says they have the best goalkeeper in the state and to let the team play looser in front of him…

DeBoer says the intensity started last week when practice first began but it was amped up in the latter part of the week…

And DeBoer himself, cannot wait…

The boys will begin the day at 4:00 with kickoff followed by the girls varsity game. Both matches can be heard on Today’s KCCR and todayskccr.com with Jon Winkler and Mendel Miller on the call.
