The Pierre Swim Team had a great weekend in Aberdeen the weekend of January 6-7, 2018. Thirty athletes from PST competed at the Aberdeen Winter High Point Swim Meet. Athletes attended from across South Dakota and North Dakota. This meet awarded high points trophies to the athletes placing first through fifth in each division and medals for places sixth through eighth.
In the girls 6 & under division, Aerabelle Fabel and Reese Spomer represented PST. She swam all personal best times and placed fifth overall. Reese brought home the second place trophy and one personal best time.
Emmyline Fabel, Brylee Pelle, and Emma Barnett competed in the girls 7-8 age group. Emmyline swam all personal best times and qualifying for the SD State Meet in the 25 breast with her time of 26.28Y. Brylee swam two personal best times and Emma swam one personal best time.
Rylon Schaefbauer represented Pierre Swim Team in the boys 7-8 division, swimming four personal best times. Rylon’s top finish was 12th place in the 25 yard Freestyle, with a time of 22.22Y.
In the girls 9-10 division, Jaycee Bauer, Amara Dell, Aliya Erickson, and Paige Spomer represented Pierre Swim Team. Jaycee came home with the eighth place medal. Her top finish was in the 200 yard Individual Medley, placing second with a time of 3:00.31Y. Amara’s best swim was in the 50 yard Breaststroke, placing fourth and qualifying for the SD State Meet with a time of 45.94Y. This was also one of several personal best times for Amara. Aliya swam several personal best times, with her best finish of ninth place in the 100 yard breaststroke with a time of 1:49.64Y. Paige brought home the fifth place trophy in this division, along with three personal best times and four SD State Meet Qualifying times.
Colton Cass, Justis Fabel, Jack Garrett, Alex Schaefbauer, and Mason Ward-Zeller represented Pierre in the boys 9-10 division. Mason took home the first place high points trophy with several AA and one AAA times. His best race was the 500 yard freestyle, which his time of 6:10.58 broke the previous PST team record of 6:37.89 set by Chris Rumrill in 2006. Colton had a great weekend, swimming six personal best times and four SD State Meet Qualifying times. Colton placed eighth overall. Justis’s best event was the 50 yard Breaststroke, placing 18th with his time of 1:33.39. Jack swam two personal best times and placed 24th in the 100 yard freestyle. Alex swam two personal best times and placed seventh in the 100 yard Individual Medley.
Karly Harris, Jazzlyn Rombough, and Rachel Salvetti competed in the girls 11-12 age group. Karly’s best swim was in the 100 yard Butterfly, placing fourth with her time of 1:32.07Y. Jazzlyn swam six personal best times and two SD State Meet qualifying times. Her top finish was in the 200 yard Individual Medley, placing third with a time of 2:49.68Y. Rachel ended the weekend with two new personal best times, in the 50 yard Freestyle and 100 yard Individual Medley.
In the boys 11-12 division, Haley Fabel had a great weekend, achieving two personal best times and placing fourth in the 50 yard Breaststroke with his time of 44.24Y. Kelan Harris also had a great weekend, swimming five personal best times and placing seventh in the 200 yard freestyle and the 50 and 100 yard breaststroke. David Stagg was the fifth place winner in this division, swimming all SD State Meet qualifying times, two personal best times, and one A time.
Aidan Burke tied for fifth place in the boys 13-14 division. His top finishes were in the 50, 100, and 200 yard freestyle events, with a personal best time of 2:03.05Y in the 200 free. Mason Dell and Isaak Rombough also competed in the boys 13-14 division. Mason swam all SD State Meet Qualifying times, with his top finishes in the 100 and 200 yard breaststroke events. Isaak swam two personal best times, all State Meet qualifying times, and brought home the second place trophy. His best finishes were in the 200 and 500 yard Freestyle, placing first in both events.
Katelyn Harris, Reagan Spomer, and Ella Ward-Zeller swam in the girls 13-14 division. Katelyn swam a State Meet qualifying time in the 200 yard Backstroke, and her best finish was in the 200 yard Breaststroke, placing sixth with a time of 3:06.36. Regan swam personal best times in the 50 and 200 yard Freestyle events.
In the girls 13-14 division, Hannah Schochenmaier’s top swim was in the 200 yard Breaststroke, placing third with a time of 3:34.06Y. Ella placed fourth overall and swam three new PST records. Her time of 5:25.57Y in the 500 yard Freestyle broke the previous record of 5:34.01Y set by Ashley Theobald in 2012. Her time of 2:13.15Y in the 200 yard Backstroke broke the previous record she had set earlier this season, same with her time of 1:00.47Y in the 100 yard Butterfly. Ella also swam a new Central Zone Speedo Sectional qualifying time in the 100 yard Butterfly. She now qualifies for Sectionals in three events.
Adam Schochenmaier was PST’s sole representative in the boys 17-19 division, placing sixth overall and achieving a personal best in the 200 yard Backstroke with his time of 2:47.33. Adam’s top finish was in the 200 yard Freestyle, placing third with his time of 2:17.53Y.
The girls relay team of Paige Spomer, Amara Dell, Aliya Erickson, and Jaycee Bauer competed in the 9-10 division swam a second place in the 200 yard Freestyle relay and a third place in the 200 yard Medley Relay. The team of Katelyn Harris, Reagan Spomer, Hannah Schochenmaier, and Ella Ward-Zeller placed first in the female 13 & over 200 Freestyle relay.
The boys relay team of Jack Garrett, Alex Schaefbauer, Mason Ward-Zeller, and Colton Cass achieved second place in the boys 9-10 200 Medley Relay. In the boys 13 & over division, the team of Aidan Burke, Mason Dell, Isaak Rombough, and Adam Schochenmaier placed third in the 200 Freestyle Relay and 200 Medley Relays.
Pierre Swim Team will be back in the pool the weekend of January 12-14 in Nebraska and North Dakota. Seven PST athletes have been selected to swim as part of Team South Dakota at the 2018 Midwestern All-Stars Swim Meet in Elkhorn, Nebraska. Thirty-one swimmers will head north to compete at the Aquastorm Category 5 Swim Meet in Bismarck, North Dakota.
The next home meet is February 10-11, 2018 at the Pierre Aquatic Center.
