Pierre Swim Team held their annual awards banquet on April 15, 2018 at the Pat Duffy Community & Youth Involved Center in Fort Pierre. Board President Torry Zeller started off the evening by thanking the City of Pierre and YMCA for their continued support of the team. Zeller also thanked the PST Board of Directors, Committees and meet volunteers.
PST Head Coach Kent Huckins and assistant coaches Laura Haberman, Deb Rumrill, Paula Weeldryer and Jim McLain presented awards. The first awards were to all members of the Green Group, which is the beginner group.
The next award presented was Hardest Worker, which athletes earn for going above and beyond at each and every practice. Riley Berg, Bryce Bowman, Rian Starr, Trevor Rounds, Michelle Weiss, and Emma Powers were the recipients of this award.
The Most Improved award went to the athletes who have shown the most improvement during the 2017-2018 short course season. This year’s recipients were: Avery Lisburg, Campbell Cronin-Tipton, Jazzlyn Rombough, Kelan Harris, Deni Zeeb and Mason Dell.
The Coach’s Award goes to those who stood out as most dedicated, driven, and goal-oriented. Breanna Tedrow, Alex Schaefbauer, Emma Reitzel, Sawyer Somsen, Katelyn Harris and Morgan Jones were this year’s recipients.
Outgoing senior Evan Rumrill was this year’s Swimmer’s Choice and Coach’s Choice Award recipient. The final awards presented were the male and female Swimmer of the Year. Ella Ward-Zeller was this year’s female recipient and Caleb Huizenga was the male recipient. Outgoing seniors Anna Haberman, Evan Rumrill and Madison Hyde were also honored.
Pierre Swim team has two events coming up in April. The team will be participating in the City’s annual Go Green and Clean campaign on April 21st, which will be the team’s third year participating in this City-wide project. On April 28, Paralympic swimmer and world record holder Tucker Dupree will be at the Pierre Aquatic Center with the Fitter and Faster Swim Tour.
