Planning Continues For New Missouri River Crossing

City leaders in Pierre and Fort Pierre will have some joint decisions to make in the next few years as plans come together to replace the vehicle bridge across the Missouri River. Fort Pierre Mayor Gloria Hanson recently attended a planning meeting for the bridge. She says they have been meeting about the project for the last two to three years…

The bridge will be placed about 50 feet north of the current crossing…

Hanson doesn’t expect traffic moving between Pierre and Fort Pierre to be effected much during construction…

Bid letting for the project is scheduled for 2020 with construction likely to begin in 2020 as well. The bridge will remain two lanes east and west but will include a wider, 12 foot walking path with multiple terraces cut in to allow for seating and resting.
