Post 8 Goes Winless in Humboldt

Pierre Post 8 struggled to find the offense this weekend in Humboldt as they went 0-3 losing to West Fargo, West Central and Sioux Falls East.

Friday afternoon, the Eights fell 2-1 to West Fargo in the opener. Garrett Stout drove in the game’s only run for Pierre on a sacrifice fly and in the bottom of the fifth. Cobey Carr went six scoreless innings but an unlucky break in the top of the seventh allowing the first run to score for West Fargo after a botched suicide squeeze attempt and an infield single gave West Fargo the win over Pierre.

On Saturday, West Central beat Pierre on a walk-off walk 5-4 to force the Eights to be 0-2. Post 8 received a 2 RBI double from Cade Hinkle in the top of the fourth to give the Eights a 3-1 lead. However a two run homer from Carson Wittrocks tied the game up in the fourth and in the bottom of the seventh, West Central won without picking up a hit in the walk-off loss.

In the finale of the tournament for Post 8, Sioux Falls East swung out to a 4-1 lead in the bottom of the first off a bases clearing double from Aiden Beck, and East never looked back rolling to a 9-1 win in five innings over the Eights. Post 8 has fallen to a three game losing streak for the first time all season and now 19-12 on the year.

Next up for Pierre is Harrisburg in a doubleheader on the road. Both games can be heard on Today’s KCCR and with Jon Winkler and Greg Dean on the call.
