GEORGE TOWN, Grand Caymans — South Dakota State men’s basketball used a big first half and a late-game flurry to claim a 94-80 win over Buffalo Wednesday, taking fifth at the 2017 Cayman Islands Classic.
The Jackrabbits (5-2) shot 60.9 percent from the field while hitting 10 of 21 1 3-point attempts. At the charity stripe, the Jacks sank 28 of 37 free throws.
Mike Daum led the way with 34 points, posting his 14th career 30-point game as one of three Jackrabbits to reach double figures. David Jenkins Jr. tallied 17 points to go with a team-high seven boards, while Tevin King had 10 points, six rebounds and two assists. Brandon Key dished out six assists on the day and Daum, Chris Howell (eight points) and Ian Theisen each added eight rebounds. For Buffalo, Nick Perkins was one of five to score in double figures as the Bulls shot 41.7 percent from the field and 29 percent beyond the arc.
South Dakota State returns to Frost Arena after the Thanksgiving holiday, hosting Dakota State Sunday at 2 p.m.
