NEBRASKA CITY, Neb.- Oh so close. South Dakota State’s Teresa Toscano came up short from claiming the 2018 Summit League Women’s Golf Championship Tuesday, tying for second after a three-player, one-hole playoff.
Toscano shot a final-round 69 to tie for the lowest round in Summit League history, but it wasn’t enough as the sophomore finished with a 217 (74-74-69), behind individual medalist Sophie Newlove of Denver (71-75-71=217), who parred the playoff hole.
After starting the day tied for sixth, the Huelva, Spain, native shot a one-under 35 on the front nine with birdies on the second and third holes. She then was two under on the back nine with birdies on the 10th, 11th and 16th holes. Toscano, who placed third last season, earned all-tournament honors for the second consecutive season.
