Second Person Dies From Potter County Crash In June

(KCCR) — The South Dakota Department of Public Safety says a second person has died in connection to a head-on crash in Potter County last month. On June 18th a Chevy Monte Carlo was traveling west on U-S Highway 212, 16 miles west of Gettysburg when the vehicle lost control in a right-turning curve. The vehicle crossed the center line and crashed with an east bound Ford F-350 pickup. A passenger in the car, 35 year-old Joseph Skye of Rapid City was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver, 24 year-old Mariah LeBeau of Aberdeen was transported to the hospital in Gettysburg then transferred to Sioux Falls where she passed away June 27th. Neither Skye nor LeBeau were using seat belts at the time. The driver of the pick-up 19 year-old Calen Decker of Gettysberg was wearing a seat belt and was not injured. The South Dakota Highway Patrol says charges are pending against Decker as they continue their investigation of the crash.
