SkyWest Starting To Move In To Pierre Regional Airport

(KCCR) — Last week, the United States Department of Transportation awarded the Essential Air Service route between Pierre, Watertown and Denver to SkyWest Airlines. City Commissioner and Airport Liaison Jamie Huizenga says the St. George, Utah-based carrier is digging in to calling Pierre home…

“SkyWest has been out here with their crews, checking out different things. They’ve been interviewing potential staff, their ground handling, and office equipment, just the physical part of them being here is starting to arrive at our airport terminal so that’s very exciting.”
Huizenga expects SkyWest to release more information on their arrival to central South Dakota soon…

“This process is moving forward. I would anticipate some press release information from SkyWest in the near term, in terms of when they want to start flying and when you can start buying tickets. That is not a decision that we, as a city can make but they will be making that, I would anticipate before too long. So we’re excited about the process. It’s moving forward and it’s moving forward quickly. Mike at the Airport has been extremely busy just trying to facilitate all of this that’s happening. This is moving as about as fast a pace as we can get it moving and it won’t be long now.”
SkyWest has told officials in both Pierre and Watertown they hope to begin service to Denver by April.
