Smoke From Wildfires Filtering Over South Dakota Skies

(KWAT) — If the sky appears to be a little hazy across South Dakota today, there’s a reason for that.  Smoke from wildfires burning across the western U.S. and Canada is being carried into the Upper Midwest by jet stream winds aloft….

Forecaster Ryan Leake at the National Weather Service office in Aberdeen says this is not something new this summer. But he says this is about as bad as its been…..

Leake says until these fires are contained, or until there’s a shift in the upper level winds, we can expect more of the same….

Leake says a pattern shift in the upper level winds could happen early next week, which would mean gradually improving visibility across South Dakota.
