The second half of the season started out with a bang for the Pierre Governor soccer teams as both the boys and girls beat Huron last Thursday and look to continue the success into Tuesday’s match against the Mitchell Kernels.
The Governor girls’ team had six different players score in the 7-0 win over the Huron Tigers for the first win of the season. Now, the Govs look to continue the hot streak against a stout Mitchell team, which is coming in at 6-2 on the season. The Kernels were shutout in its last game to Harrisburg 4-0 but had won four straight previously.
The Governors boys sit in 13th place in the AA standings but in a half point they can rise to the 10th spot and knock on the door of the 9th seed. The Kernels are 1-7 and have lost all seven in a row heading into the evening matchup. Mitchell has scored just three goals in the seven game losing streak.
The girls will begin the day with a 4:00 kickoff followed by the boys playing at 6:00. You can listen to both games on Today’s KCCR, todayskccr.com and on YouTube at KCCR Sports with Jon Winkler and Mendel Miller on the call.
