Soccer Splits with Mitchell

The Pierre Governor Soccer teams split the doubleheader on Tuesday against Mitchell as the Kernels won the girl’s game 1-0 but the boys won 4-0.

In the girls contest, the Kernels received a goal midway through the first half from Mia Mullenmeister as it held up to be the only goal of the game and give the Kernels a now 7-2 record while the Governors fall to 1-6-1 on the season with just four games remaining. The Govs outshot the Kernels and had several quality chances from the likes of Ryann Berry, Avery Davis and Caytee Williams but couldn’t beat the goalkeeper.

In the boys contest, Nathan Leiferman put on a show as he scored all four goals in the game for his second hat trick of the season. Cam Ahartz had to make just one save which was a relatively easy one, especially for Ahartz. The Govs peppered 33 shots toward the Mitchell net while the Kernels had just 3 attempts in the entire game.

Head Coach Matt DeBoer says a win is a win but wasn’t too happy about everything…

DeBoer says Leiferman was everywhere…

The Governors will face Roosevelt on Thursday and DeBoer says they are an all-around good team…
