(KCCR) — A name has been recommended for a currently unnamed creek in Hughes County. Three names came before the South Dakota Board on Geographic Names during a public meeting September 30th. With public input as part of its guide, the Board recommended to pass the name Arikara Creek on to the U-S Board on Geographic Names for its consideration. The South Dakota Board is still taking public comment, concerns or opposition to the name. Written comments should be submitted no later than November 16th. Final action on approving Arikara Creek as the name for the creek will be held on December 2nd in the Becker-Hanson Building in Pierre at 3:30 pm. The creek is located in rural Hughes County, north of State Highway 34 between 297th and 299th Avenues.
