State Bankers Association Brings Ag Credit Conference To Pierre

(WNAX) — The South Dakota Bankers Association is hosting their Ag Credit Conference this week in Pierre. The annual conference, usually held in April, was snowed out this year. Bankers Association President Curt Everson says considering ag conditions, that cancellation may have been a good thing…

“We’re gonna have better information, I think, in terms of what the… what the profitability picture looks like for production agriculture now that we would’ve have back in April when we didn’t know what weather conditions were gonna do to planted corn acres and planted bean acres and… and… then on down the line.”

Everson says bankers are keeping a close eye on ag operations…

“Everybody’s looking at their loan portfolios to see how each individual customer… is performing.”

Everson says there are reports of credit lines getting tight…

“I’ve seen some… national stories about some credit tightening, credit availability tightening that’s going on in the market place, especially on the part of some of the larger banks that… tend to… look at agriculture maybe a little bit differently as a part of their loan portfolio than the rural community bank or any other bank that’s doing business here in South Dakota.”

The conference runs through the 16th at the Ramkota Conference Center in Pierre.
