Steele Earns South Dakota Football Coach of the Year

Winning your third straight state championship and finishing the three year run with an undefeated season a coach will usually end up with a Coach of the Year award. Head Coach Steve Steele of the Pierre Governor Football team received the award at the end of last week as the Governors continue to get more accolades from the season through players and coaches.

Steele says this is more of a team award than an individual award…

Steele says this wasn’t won just because of one year…

As the team received another accolade for the year, Steele says it reflects how much more special this year was than the two previous…

And Steele also wanted to thank the support of family for being a big reason for the success of the program…

The other coaches to win coach of the year awards for the fall:

Cheer – Marla Tegethoff of Platte-Geddes High School

Dance – Megan Smith of Huron High School

Soccer – Tyler Schuring of Yankton High School

Girls Cross Country – Karol Patterson of Wall High School

Boys Cross Country – Chris Riley of Belle Fourche High School

Volleyball – Rosemary Bellum of Watertown High School

These coaches will be recognized at the annual awards banquet to be held in Rapid City this summer in conjunction with the South Dakota Coaches’ Clinic.
