Stout, Coverdale Selected for Legion All-State Team

When the summer arrived and South Dakota decided it will be playing Legion baseball this year, there was hope it would last the entire season but some had doubts if it would go. The season began and went through the state tournament without being canceled and paved the way for the Fall Sports season to begin. Now, postseason accolades are being announced and two Pierre Post 8 players have been awarded first team All-State; Garrett Stout and Andrew Coverdale.

The duo were the middle infield all season, outside of when Stout took to the mound but both guys hit around the .400 mark for Pierre as Stout dropped seven bombs this season including three separate walk-off home runs including a walk-off grand slam against Mandan. Stout recorded 66 hits on the year, five more than his All-State teammate, who was second on the team.

Coverdale had the best batting average on the team at .409 and had 32 RBIs this season. Coverdale struck out the least (min. 65 at bats) and lead the team in runs scored with 51 for the year.

Post 8 Manager Brian White says there’s a lot of good baseball players on the list…

White says you almost take for granted having your middle infield as good as what Stout and Coverdale have been…

And White says both have lasting impacts on the Post 8 program…

Post 8 finished in third place at the state tournament in Rapid City.
