In a game that felt much closer than the score, the Sully Buttes Chargers pushed their record to 9-1 with a 63-47 victory over the injury depleted Stanley County Buffaloes in boys’ basketball at Parkview Gym in Ft. Pierre.
Using a 1-3-1 collapsing defense on the low post, the Buffaloes tried to keep the ball out of the hands of front court players Lincoln Jordre and Jacob Howard. It worked-for a time-until Sully Buttes was able to be patient and feed the ball into Howard—who finished with 18 points, while Jordre ended the night with 16 points. Howard and Jordre were the only players to shoot free throws for Sully Buttes—going 8 of 9 from the line.
For Stanley County, Joey Fischer led the way in scoring, with 18 points—and four three pointers. Senior Cale Meiners contributed 13 points for the Buffs, who fall to 8-5 on the season.
The Chargers also had Deven Kleven and Nick Wittler finish the game with ten points apiece. Next up for Sully Buttes is a girls-boys doubleheader against Hitchcock Tulare Thursday evening in Tulare, while the Buffaloes will take on Crow Creek in Stephan.
