The Sully Buttes Charger boys basketball team started a doubleheader against Faulkton Area and pulled away with a 64-25 victory over the injury depleted Trojans Thursday night in Onida. The Chargers kept the pace up all night long, and ran past Faulkton—leading 30-13 at the half, and in the second half extended the lead to initiate the continuous running clock. Scoring for Sully Buttes was balanced, with Lincoln Jordre totaling 16 points, while Nick Wittler added thirteen, and Jacob Howard ended his night with eleven. The Chargers’ record now stands at 17-1 heading into a big game Saturday night against Langford Area at the Warner Classic The Trojans are now at 7-12 on the year, with the leading scorer Nick Schlector finishing with eight points. The Trojans were without two starters due to injuries.
The Charger girls led 49-30 after three quarters, and had to hold on against a fast charging Lady Trojan squad en route to a 62-55 win. The Chargers finished the night going 24 of 33 from the free throw line, while Faulkton Area resorted to fouling to slow the clock to get back into the game. Faulkton also added seven three point shots during the game to try to stay close. Sully Buttes was led in scoring once again by Rachel Guthmiller, who totaled 21 points, while Lauren Wittler added 16, and Kendra Kleven with fifteen. Sully Buttes finished the regular season Thursday night with a 19-1 record, and will be the top seed in the Region 2B playoffs, starting next week. The Lady Trojans finished the year with a 14-5 mark, and will be the third overall seed in Region 2B. The Lady Trojans were led in scoring by Taylor Cramer, who finished with 20 points.
