Solid serving, strong net play, and effective passing helped the Sully Buttes Chargers hold off a determined Highmore Harrold squad in Region 2B volleyball action Tuesday night in Onida. The Chargers won by 25-12, 25-19, and 25-20 scores over the Pirates, who advanced with an impressive win Monday night against Sunshine Bible Academy.
The Chargers started the match with strong serving by freshman Tailynn Bradford, who propelled the Chargers to a 7-0 lead in the first set, and Sully Buttes was strong in service throughout the night. Unofficial stats showed the Chargers having only two service errors throughout the match.
Despite the strong play, Highmore Harrold kept the contest close in the final two sets, but couldn’t sustain an offensive drive to score a victory.
Leading the way in kills for Sully Buttes was Angela Guthmiller, finishing the night with twelve, while Lauren Wittler added seven kills and three service aces—all in the decisive third set.
Next up for Sully Buttes is a home contest against Herreid Selby Area, who defeated Edmunds Central in three sets. These two teams met on October 16th, with the Wolverines winning 25-22, 25-20, 25-22.
You’ll be able to hear the contest Thursday night on Country 95.3FM and pierrecountry .com with DT Meyer, the voice of the Sully Buttes Chargers.
