Sully Buttes gets close, but fall on the road

The Sully Buttes Chargers boys basketball team traveled to Ipswich to battle the Tigers, and when it was over, it was the Tigers who held on to a 56-53 victory over Sully Buttes.

The Chargers started slow, and committed numerous turnovers before they tightened up their game, and trailed 30-26 at the half.  After another slow start in the third quarter, the Chargers scrapped their way back within reach, but Ipswich held the Chargers at bay, and burned the clock down to seal their fate.

Leading the way for the 3-5 Chargers was senior Rafe Wientjes, who finished with 17 points, while Marshall Wittler found long range in the second half, and  scored 13 points.  For Ipswich, Josh McQuarie had 16 points—thanks to five three point shots.  The Tigers up their record to 6-2.

Next up for Sully Buttes—a girls/boys doubleheader Thursday in Miller against the Rustlers.  Coverage of the varsity games will start at 6:30, with the boys game to follow.  You can hear the game on the home for Sully Buttes sports—Country 95.3FM and pierrecountry.com, with DT Meyer.
