The Sully Buttes Charger girls and boys basketball teams defended their home court against Winner Saturday in a doubleheader of action before a packed house.
The Charger girls took the court first, facing the 2-0 Lady Winner Warriors. After going in at halftime with a 26-20 lead, the Charger girls came out and ran and passed their way around the Warrior defense to outscore Winner 14-5 in the third quarter, en route to a 58-45 victory. Leading the way in scoring was Lauren Wittler, who finished with 20 points, while Marinda Archer added 16 and Rachel Guthmiller had 14. For Winner, Morgan Hammerbeck was the leading scorer with 13.
The boys game that followed was physical, and fouls were handed out like Halloween candy. The Charger boys came away with a 63-49 victory. Lincoln Jordre scored 19, sophomore guard Nick Wittler had 18, including four three pointers. Winner had three players in double figures, led by Shea Connot with 14, Brandon Volmer had 13 and freshman Brady Fritz had 11.
The Charger girls now 2-0 and will be back in action Thursday, December 28th at the Parkston Classic, while the Charger boys also now 2-0, will be in action Monday night at home against Mobridge Pollock. You can catch that game on Country 95.3 FM, DT Meyer will be making the call.
