TIMBER LAKE, S.D. (TodaysKCCR.com) — As heard on Country 95.3, the Sully Buttes Charger basketball teams overcame numerous turnovers, and focused on offensive production in helping them pick up road wins Tuesday night in Timber Lake.
The Charger girls grabbed a 59-49 win over the Timber Lake Panthers, thanks in part to free throws. The Chargers hit 34 of 42 attempts at the line, with Rachel Guthmiller leading the way with 23 points. Lauren Wittler added twelve. The Chargers also committed nineteen turnovers, but were able to overcome the pressure defense of the Panthers.
The Timber Lake girls now fall to 7-3 on the season.
The Charger boys used their tried-and-true method of low post dominance to record a 59-29 win over Timber Lake. Despite the boys also having trouble with turnovers—a recorded fifteen in the first half alone—the Chargers tightened things up in the second half and pulled away with a victory to push their record to 7-1 on the year. The Panthers boys’ record now also stands at 7-3 on the season.
Next up for the Charger girls and boys is another doubleheader contest Saturday in Mobridge, where the Chargers will face Strasburg-Zeeland North Dakota. The girls will go first at 1:45, with the boys game to follow. You can catch the action on Country 95.3FM with DT Meyer courtside in Mobridge.
