Sunset Owners Address Dock Project With Pierre City Commission

The ongoing saga of the Sunset paddleboat and the City of Pierre took center stage to start the Pierre City Commission meeting Tuesday night. Riverboats L-L-C co-owner Caleb Gilkerson told Commissioners he felt city officials are giving his project to add a dock for the Sunset on the Pierre side of the Missouri River the run around…

Gilkerson says he and co-owner Steve Rounds have spent thousands of dollars on the project with little or no progress being made. Rounds just wants the city to submit their application to the Army Corps of Engineers…

Rounds says businesses in Pierre and Fort Pierre have benefited by the Sunset but said if something isn’t done they may need to do something else with the Sunset. Mayor Steve Harding says there have been misunderstandings with the issue…

After many more minutes of discussion and consultation with City Attorney Bob Riter, Commissioner Jim Mehlhaff suggested an end game…

A date and time for a meeting between city officials and the Sunset’s owners has not been determined.  You can hear the entire 36 minute discussion on the Sunset by starting the audio player below:
