Thorson Named Gatorade South Dakota Volleyball Player of the Year

CHICAGO, I.L. (Press Release) — Avery Thorson of Harrisburg High School has been named the 2017-2018 Gatorade South Dakota Volleyball Player of the Year.

The 5-foot-9 senior setter led the Tigers to a 23-1 record and a second-straight Class AA state championship this past season. Thorson amassed 856 assists, 248 digs, 80 kills and 51 blocks while posting a kill percentage of .304. The state’s Class AA Miss Volleyball winner, Thorson is a two-time First Team All-State selection. She concluded her prep volleyball career with 2,878 assists and 880 digs.

Thorson has maintained a 3.89 GPA in the classroom. She has signed a National Letter of Intent to play volleyball on scholarship at Augustana University this fall.  She is the second Gatorade South Dakota Volleyball Player of the Year to be chosen from Harrisburg High School.
