Vikings Drop Top-Seeded Florida Southern in College World Series

CARY, N.C. (GoAugie.com) — It was a game that carried a magnitude of emotions with momentum that shifted from team to team, but in the end, the fifth-seeded Augustana Baseball team upset top-seeded Florida Southern, 6-5, Sunday night in the Division II College World Series from the USA National Baseball Complex.

With the win, Augustana improved to 50-9, while Florida Southern dropped to 43-10-1 on the season.

Clinging to a 5-4 lead in the bottom of the sixth inning, J.T. Mix found a gap in left field that scored Lucas Wylie, who singled to center earlier in the inning, to give the Vikings a 6-4 advantage.

David Flattery, a senior from Fort Dodge, Iowa, earned his sixth win of the year in a five inning, six strikeout performance.

The Vikings improved to 2-0 in the CWS and will play Thursday, May 31 at 6 p.m. (CT) against an opponent yet to be determined.
