On a day that saw several time changes and a postponement of the Region Championship, the Governors faced Huron in the 3-14 matchup in the first round of the Region 3 bracket. The Governors sent Gray Zabel to the mound looking for a strong performance and they received more than that. Zabel threw five complete no-hit innings, striking out eight en route to a 14-0 victory over the Tigers.
The Governors recorded 11 hits in four innings at the plate and score three in the first, one in the second and 10 runs in the third inning to blow open the doors and advance to the Region 3 Championship today. In that 10 run third inning, Cobey Carr, Andrew Coverdale, Andy Gordon, Matt Lusk, Jack Van Camp and Maguire Raske all drove in runs.
For Zabel in the no-hitter, he had to deal with the elements with the mound taking its fair share of rain but he still felt comfortable.
The Governors will face Sioux Falls Roosevelt, who upset Harrisburg 13-4 on Saturday in Brandon, in the Region Championship today. The game has been moved to Watertown and first pitch is scheduled for 5:00. You can listen starting with the pregame show at 4:40 on Today’s KCCR and todayskccr.com with Jon Winkler on the call.
