PIERRE — Severe drought conditions are now being depicted across a large section of western South Dakota. The U-S Drought Monitor map now shows D-2 Severe drought west of a line from Ipswich, to Fort Pierre to Kadoka. Extreme drought has been removed from southern Oglala Lakota County but remains in southeast South Dakota in parts of Minnehaha, Lincoln, Union, Turner and Clay Counties. A pocket of abnormally dry conditions are seen in east central to northeast South Dakota. In central South Dakota severe drought is noted in Ziebach, Haakon, most of Jackson, western Jones and Stanley, Dewey, most of Sully and Potter Counties. Moderate drought is included in eastern Jackson and Jones, Mellette, Tripp, Lyman, Brule, Buffalo, Hughes, Hyde and most of Hand Counties.
